White Bark-Handle Mug

Everything tastes better in stoneware, from a morning coffee, a relaxing herbal tea, lunchtime tomato soup or hot cocoa by the fireside. This mug also makes a thoughtful gift for holiday party hosts, alone or filled with wrapped truffles or specialty tea.

While still on the wheel, I used a profile rib to create wavy walls for the mug, and flared out the rim. I made the handle from a slab into which I pressed a bark texture. The interior and rim have a translucent white glaze, beyond which the soft tone of the fired clay shows through a shiny clear glaze.
