Sunflower Bowl

Charming and functional, this bowl is ideal to serve snacks, candy, ramen, a side dish for entertaining, or a generous portion of toppings. Use it as a decorative accent or to organize your treasures. Plus, it looks equally attractive filled or empty.

This stoneware bowl was thrown on a potter’s wheel. After firing it in an electric kiln, I hand painted a ring of sunflowers around the exterior with yellow and green underglazes, and outlined them with black underglaze using a slip trailer. The painted pattern gets set with a second firing in the kiln. Finally, I painted a shiny jade-turquoise glaze in the interior and a clear glaze on the outside for a smooth glossy finish.
