Flecked Small Casserole

Glazed in a warm flecked oatmeal tone, this casserole dish is the perfect size for two servings. Roast some veggies, indulge in a fruit crisp, or bake a wheel of brie and bring it right to the table. This item also doubles as a serving piece for crackers, bread, pilafs, couscous, generous servings of dip and more. 

These casseroles started as round bowls thrown on the wheel. Before removing them, I impressed a spiral in the bottom. To achieve a rectangle shape, I cut a section of the wall from the base, carefully pressed the long sides inward, and re-adhered the wall to its new position. To make the lug handles, I threw a short cylinder, added texture to its circumference, cut out handle-wide sections and adhered these to the casserole. After being fired in an electric kiln, I choose this toasty oatmeal glaze, with a deep blue accent on the rim. Finally, the piece gets its last firing.
