Blue Hydrangea Serving Bowl

For this pottery bowl, I threw the form on the wheel while gently encouraging a flared rim. After its bisque firing, I hand painted the interior surface with hydrangea blooms in a cheery blue underglaze with delicate brown stems. After a second bisque firing, I glazed the outside with a coordinating sky-blue glaze, which I also used to sponge over the flower petal for a diffused romantic effect. Finally, a glossy glaze adds durability to the interior.
