Butterfly Pot

Just like the butterflies they celebrate, these pots look small and delicately adorned, but can really go the distance. One of these pots can be used either as a condiment dish to serve jams, dips, salsa, guacamole or sauces, or as a planter to hold a cute little succulent.

I threw these pots on the wheel, fired them in an electric kiln, and glazed them with pale green on the lower third, white for a butterfly shape and clear overall. After their glaze firing, I drew the pink and gold butterfly highlights. Finally, the rim is embellished with a gold-tinted ceramics paint, after which the pots get their last curing by heat.

Due to the gold embellishments, these items are not safe for the microwave or oven.
