Blossom Bud Vase

This blue ceramic bud vase makes a charming and functional accent piece that adds a modern whimsical touch to home decor.

I used several techniques to create this handmade ceramic vase. I threw the form on the wheel and hand-painted the surface with several coats of slip (liquid clay) in a custom-tinted sky-blue shade. Next, I used a carving technique called sgraffito to create blossoms reminiscent of sakura blooms. For its second firing, I dipped the vase in a shiny clear glaze for durability and gloss. Finally, I outlined the edges of the blooms with porcelain paint.
