Black Bark Tall Lidded Container

Organically flowing carvings and quartz crystals give this piece a one-of-a-kind character. This rustically elegant container not only makes a dramatic statement in any modern natural decor, but is functional too. This original item makes a special gift.

I used stoneware clay to throw this vessel and lid on a potter’s wheel, then I painted them with liquid clay stained velvety black. Once the slip dried, I used a technique known as sgraffito to embellish the pieces with carvings. After being fired an electric kiln for the first time, I dipped them in a food-safe clear glaze. Next, they were fired a second time for a vitrified, durable finish. Finally, to enhance the organic feel of the pot, for a knob, I applied genuine quartz crystal beads.

The lid not safe for the microwave, oven or dishwasher. Handwashing is recommended.
